How to Prepare for a Visit from a Professional Cleaning Service

If you have considered hiring a professional cleaning service to help relieve the burden and hassle of household chores…great! We’re glad you’ve decided to ditch the feather duster for your favorite self care activity. Not so fast though, there a few tips we would like to share with you regarding your upcoming visit so things go as smoothly as possible. Don’t worry we promise there is absolutely no cleaning apart of the preparation process. Keep reading below to help your cleaners do a faster and more efficient job while getting the most out of your service…

Prevent Potential Lockouts

We are sure your cleaners are excited to serve you, but in order to do so they must be able to access your home. If you plan to be present when representatives from the cleaning service arrive, of course you have nothing to worry about. However, consider providing your cleaners with an alternative way to access your home if you need to step out for a quick errand.

If you are unable to be present at the time of your cleaning appointment please ask your cleaning company about a key service. This will be especially helpful if you plan on scheduling recurring appointments. If this is not an option please consider leaving instructions indicating where cleaners can find a spare key or make arrangements to meet the cleaners before the service begins.

Lastly, please don’t forget any additional information related to entering the home such as a gate code, alarm code, or any other special instructions.

Declutter

Okay, so we promised there would be no cleaning on your behalf leading up to your appointment, and we mean it! But we would like you to do some picking up around your home or decluttering before your cleaning service arrives. This isn’t the typical back breaking and time consuming cleaning that you hate. We simply encourage all customers to make sure that your house is organized so that your cleaners spend less time picking up and more time cleaning. Specific things to look out for include: toys, clothes, junk mail, and loose change. This is also an excellent time to secure any fragile items to prevent them from being damaged during your service.

Clear Away Dirty Dishes and Food Messes

This tip is an extension of the previous one. Unfortunately, most cleaning services do not wash dishes or handle food messes. If this specific task is not provided by your cleaning service and there is no ability to make this an add-on task or a special request, please make sure to wash and put away your dirty dishes. This will make it easier for the sink and surrounding areas to be cleaned and the best part…you wont have any additional chores once your cleaners are done.

Put Your Pets Away

We know how important your furry friends are to you, but it is important to keep both the cleaners and your pet(s) safe. It’s important to remember that your pets could get in the way while the cleaners are hard at work. We also want you to be mindful that your house cleaners may have pet allergies or phobias. Unfortunately in this scenario it’s best to put the furbabies away until the job is done. We’re sure they will appreciate your newly clean space just as much as you will.

Communicate

Last, but certainly not least…communicate! If you have any special requests or particular things you would like to note for your cleaner don’t hesitate to let them know. The best way to do this would be to contact your cleaning service directly. They will likely have plans in place to relay the information to their employees. If possible, consider during a quick walk through with your cleaners when they arrive to go over any critical things you may have forgotten to mention.

Additionally, don’t be afraid to ask questions leading up to your appointment. Its best to make sure that you are on the same page as the cleaning service so you know what services you are being provided with. This will definitely help you manage your expectations regarding your experience with your cleaners.
