Your 4th of July Party Checklist
Friends, family, and fireworks - some of our favorite memories were made with friend and family gatherings on 4th of July. With that being said we decided to take a slightly different direction with this week’s bog post. We figured that with the holiday weekend coming up, we would make a small pivot and share a bit of lifestyle content. If you are throwing or attending a party this weekend be sure to keep reading for some additional items to make the party a little extra fun. Don't let a little thing like sunburn or bugs ruin your weekend. Use this list to ensure you have a happy holiday:
Food Covers & Containers
Ants and other pests are a pain for any picnic or party. Make sure to bring your food and drinks in containers that will keep all unwanted pests away.
Canopy/Umbrella
Parks and other public places are particularly crowded on Independence Day and shady places may be difficult to find. Bring your own shelter from the sun with a canopy or beach umbrella.
Picnic Blanket
Parks are usually packed on this holiday, so bring a blanket to sit on and have yourself a proper picnic.
Games
Water guns and water balloons are a fun way to play, relax, and cool off this weekend while trying a new twist on an old favorite. We couldn’t possibly forget about bubbles! They are whimsical and entertaining at any age and a beautiful way to enjoy the holiday. One last thing, grab your bikes, trikes, and unicycles to enjoy the view and cool breeze around the park or the neighborhood.
Sparklers
If your bash lasts past sundown, sparklers are a must—but pass out glow sticks and necklaces to the youngest guests. Have a contest to see who can snap the best photos of the sparklers in action. Just to be safe (and to save yourself cleanup later), have a bucket of water on hand where people can dunk their used sparklers.
Natural Insect Repellent
Say hello to friends—but goodbye to bugs—with a pretty pot of herbs. “Plants like lavender, mint, rue and tansy have been used to repel insects for ages,” says Briscoe White, co-owner and herb guru at The Growers Exchange. Rosemary, thyme and catmint are popular picks, too. Lightly brush your hand over the herbs to release a natural form of bug spray!
Red, White, & Blue Food
A July 4th celebration is incomplete without the festive food to match! Get the menu in on the Independence Day action with food that echoes stars and stripes. Bake a flag cake covered with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream; toss up a party mix with colorful candies; or make an appetizer pizza with tomatoes and Kalamata olives. Whatever it is, we are sure it will be amazing.
Happy partying!
